Night Vision Scopes
Night Vision Scopes and Multipurpose Viewers
Night vision scopes allow shooter's to view their target on a green and black background with a red or amber illuminated reticle for aiming. Most night vision rifle scopes are not designed to be used in daylight as excess light exposure can burn out the devices image intensifier tube. The exception to this would be a Gen 3 model that is equipped with an autogated/Pinnacle image intensifier tube. This type of optic is capable of operating effectively in lighted situations such as dusk, dawn, and cloudy days that would cause non-autogated equipment to automatically shutdown to protect their image tubes from damage. Cheap night vision scopes are available in our Gen 1 Scopes section, and to find out about the ultimate in professional night vision visit our D-760 scopes page or check out the new D-730 Super-lite and our top of the line D-750 models.
These advanced optics come in magnification ranges from 1.5x-6x with 4x being the most popular choice. If the night scope will be your only night optic device remember that the higher the magnification, the smaller your field-of-view will be, so a big 6x power model may look great but its' field-of-view will be narrower and scouting through it for long periods of time can be tiring. A not so cheap solution to this is wearing a wide field-of-view monocular on your head in front of your non-shooting eye for navigation and target acquisition, then transitioning to the night scope to zero in and fire at the target.
Our night vision scopes are easily mountable on most rifles that have a solid Weaver or Picatinny base. Long range infrared illuminators are a highly recommended accessory for any type of night hunting as they increase the low-light performance significantly by shining a beam of light onto the target that is invisible to the naked eye (but very visible to anyone using night vision). These are especially helpful when hunting hogs as their dark color makes them harder to pick out on very dark nights and "most" animals can not see the infrared light. All Gen 1 devices come with built in infrared illuminators as their older technology requires the boost that the IR illuminator will give them. Many of the military Pro quality night optics do not come with IR illuminators for reasons such as weight reduction and safety, as you don't want an IR device giving away your position to others that may also be using night vision. These elite level models don't require the boost from IR illumination and have incredible performance even when used "passively" (without IR). However if another person with night vision seeing your IR light beam is not a safety or security concern than the addition of an attachable long-range IR illuminator is recommended. Please feel free to give us a call (1-800-771-6845), to discuss your needs, whether it's hog or coyote hunting, home security, or law enforcement we can find you the best model for your unique situation. ~NightVision4Less
